positive impact

Social Responsibility

Our aim is to manage all aspects of our business and use the resources at our disposal to produce an overall positive impact on society. We believe in doing the right thing without expecting anything in return.

supporting over 100 charities

The Foundation

Set up in 2010, the Foundation is a charitable trust founded and run by those who work in Oxygen House.

All members of staff have the opportunity to contribute to the Foundation and become a trustee, donating as much or as little as they like, and regular meetings are held where trustees nominate charities to receive support from the available funds. To date, the Foundation has supported more than 100 different charities working towards a variety of good causes, ranging from small-scale organizations in our local area to international aid campaigns.

what we are doing

Events

In the last twelve months, our Social Responsibility team has organized and supported a range of events for local and national charities:

  • A Pub Quiz in support of Andy’s Man Club, a men’s suicide prevention charity
  • A Target Practice Tennis session to raise money to buy new toys for the Bramble Ward at the Royal Devon & Exeter hospital
  • A Beach Clean on Exmouth Beach as part of the Million Mile Clean initiative, with 17 people making their way to and from Exmouth by green transport
  • A huge effort for the World Cup to sponsor the planting of a football pitch-worth of trees – which we then helped to plant on Dartmoor earlier this year
  • Support for personal volunteering opportunities, culminating in March with a visit to Exeter Cathedral’s Volunteer Fayre – a chance for people to find out about other ways of helping the local community

promoting STEM

Education

Building strong relationships with academic and educational communities is really important to us.

In recent years we have supported several sports modelling PhD projects at Lancaster University through the STORi programme. We are an industrial partner for the Exeter Mathematics Certificate at Exeter Mathematics School, where we organise and supervise real-world mathematical modelling problems for A-level students.

Finally, each year at Oxygen House we run introductory training workshops on learning R through sports modelling, which are offered free of charge to undergraduates and postgraduates from around the country.

Our Social Responsibility Statement

We will:

  • Build a conscientious team that care about social responsibility. We do this by making SR a high priority across the company. We’ll ensure it’s highly visible, well resourced and heavily supported by our director team. Our SR committee is made up of team members from different departments across the business. They meet regularly to plan and promote our SR activity.
  • Provide a framework to support personal social responsibility activities. We’ve introduced an additional holiday allowance for our team to use for personal volunteering and provided a resources pack of local charity contacts to help people get started.
  • Maintain our focus on staff wellbeing. We provide high-quality on-site facilities including free meals, a gym, changing room, sports pitch and on site electric car charging. We have trained Mental Health First Aiders in our team and offer a number of peripheral services like counselling and physiotherapy where appropriate. We also offer flexible working and offer a comprehensive benefits package. We have a thriving social calendar and try to build charitable elements into these events where we can.
  • We seek to reduce our carbon footprint. We use data to drive our decision making when it comes to managing our energy usage. We promote good practice when it comes to procurement, where possible purchasing from local suppliers and choosing environmentally approved products.
